A teenage darts player has hit the bullseye after being chosen as a torchbearer in July 2012 when the Olympic relay comes to Deal.

Robbie Herbert, 14, plays for the Deal, Walmer and District Invitation Darts League and was one of thousands of names put forward, with a one in 11 chance of success.

The Castle Community College pupil said: "I am not sure what I will be doing exactly yet, but I am really excited."

School principal Philip Bunn put Robbie’s name forward and he said: "It is an honour that is fully deserved. Robbie is a fantastic student and a lovely kid. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and one which very few people in the world will ever have. Everyone at the college is so proud of him".

Liverpool FC supporter Robbie, of Trinity Place, Deal, plays darts at Betteshanger Sports and Social Club and took up the sport two years ago, following in the footsteps of his father Russell, who is a window cleaner.
