Drivers will need to take an alternative route later today as the A2 will close overnight in Dover.

Resurfacing work will begin at 8pm between Lydden and Whitfield with the coast bound carriageway closed and a fully signed diversion in place via the A260, A20 and A2 which will be completed by 11pm.

The A2 Jubilee Way will the close in both directions between the A256 and A20 till 6am tomorrow morning for maintenance work to the bridge.

The work on the bridge was postponed from Sunday after a fire closed Barton Road in Dover, which was part of the diversion route.

Long distance traffic is advised to use the M20 or A20.
