Deal's post boxes will be given a face lift between April and March next year

Deal’s post boxes will be given a face lift anytime between April and March next year, it has been confirmed.

The news from Royal Mail comes after Jenny Domane of Albion Road, Deal, called for them to be renovated.

She contacted the company to express her concerns over the state of them.

She said: “I think it is very important that we save our heritage post boxes and keep them in a good state of repair, especially for our many visiting tourists within the UK and further afield.

"I have visited other towns where post boxes have been maintained and can't understand why Deal has been overlooked.

“I have been a resident of Deal for 10 years and these post boxes have not been touched in my time.

“It is letting the town down and is a disgrace for Royal Mail.”

Mrs Domane made reference to Deal being a popular coastal town for visitors and property investors. It was also named High Street of the Year in 2014 by The Daily Telegraph.

Royal Mail spokesman Sally Hopkins said: “Our post boxes in Deal are scheduled to be repainted within the next year, starting from April.

“There are over 115,000 post boxes across the country.

“We repaint and refurbish them on a regular basis and we also respond directly to reports by our staff and customers about boxes that require urgent attention.”
