Police investigating a report of an assault have released a computer generated image of a man they would like to speak to.
The victim suffered a cut following the alleged attack, which took place in Canada Road, Walmer.
Investigating officer detective constable, Debbie Phillips, said: “The victim was walking along Canada Road towards Gladstone Road when a man walked past, knocking the victim’s shoulder and then asking for a light, which the victim did not have.
“When the victim arrived home he discovered a small laceration to his side.”
It is said to have happened shortly after 6.30pm on Sunday, January 28.
The man is described as being white, about 5ft 10ins tall, of a medium build and with a deep voice and thick-rimmed glasses.
He was wearing a military-style coat, possibly with a lighter-coloured hooded top on underneath, and he smelt of oil, as though he worked in a garage.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them.
DC Phillips added: “We are particularly keen to hear from an elderly couple who walked past the victim shortly before the reported assault, as they may have important information that could help our investigation.”
