A man who died after an accident involving a bin lorry has been named.

Police confirmed the man, originally from Nigeria, was 44-year-old Adeyinka Aderoba.

Kent police and emergency services were called to the incident at Centenary Gardens, Eastry, Sandwich at 12.40 pm on Tuesday (January 11).

Police aren't treating the death as suspicious, and are compiling a report for the coroner.

The Health & Safety Executive has launched its own investigation.

Mr Aderoba was employed by SITA, the company employed by Dover District Council to collect refuse and recycling.

Fire appliances from Deal and Eastry attended along with an advisor from Kent Fire and Rescue Service' s Urban Search and Rescue team.

Watch manager Paul Vanstone said: "The man was in the back of the truck where the refuse goes and firefighters had to find a way of reversing the mechanism off him."

SITA's spokeswoman Nicola Dowlen, said: "Our thoughts and condolences are with our employee's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

"We are offering counselling for all members of staff at our Dover facility."

Residents of Centenary Gardens were asked to stay with friends or family, and were not allowed to return home until late afternoon.

Mr Aderoba's next of kin in Nigeria have been informed.
