Police have launched an investigation after a man was hit and killed by a train at Shepherdswell station, just outside Dover, this afternoon.

The incident caused major delays to train services throughout Kent, although all lines had reopened by 8pm.

There are unconfirmed reports that the victim was walking inside a railway tunnel.

British Transport Police said he was 64 and from Canterbury.
