A solicitor will contest the Dover and Deal constituency for the Liberal Democrats.
Simon Dodd has been chosen by his East Kent Coast branch as candidate for the seat in the general election on June 8.
His selection was announced on the branch website on Sunday night.
Mr Dodd is a solicitor specialising in competition and EU law and joined his party while still at university. He is married with one daughter.
Mr Dodd is a passionate European and says “In standing for this seat I want to protect and increase jobs and quality of life for local people. As a border town, Dover is threatened head-on with the practical realities of leaving the EU single market.
“The imposition of tariffs on goods passing to and from the continent will place an extra burden on customs officials and lorry traffic in terms of enjoying a smooth transition through the port.
“So far, the current government has made no mention of this huge and expensive challenge.”
Mr Dodd is also campaigning on issues such as the NHS, social care and schools.
He said: “Our public services are in crisis. This is the time to start investing in the future of our country.”
Other confirmed candidates for Dover are Charlie Elphicke for the Conservatives, Labour’s Stacey Blair and Beccy Sawbridge for the Green Party.
Remaining ones are expected to be announced shortly.
General election candidates will debate in the first hustings which will be chaired by the Bishop of Dover.
The Rt Rev Trevor Wilmott will oversee discussions at St Mary's Parish Centre in Church Street, Dover from 7.30pm on Friday, May 19.
The event is being organised by Christians Together in Dover.
Marianne Slater, secretary of CTD, wants all candidates to take part in the meeting . They or their agents should contact her on ctid.secretary@btinternet.com.
