Another shipment of sheep has sailed from the Port of Dover this morning.

Demonstrators were at the dock gates early to voice their protest against the trade as lorries carrying the sheep went by.

It follows the resumption of live animal exports from Dover two months ago, after the port authorities were told they had no legal right to ban the trade.

It is up to the European Parliament to change the law, and the town's MP Charlie Elphicke has already said he will be bringing pressure on the ministers in Brussels to take action.

The ship Joline set sail from Dover's Eastern Docks at about 8am heading for Calais.

The protestors say they are concerned about the conditions in which the animals have to travel, and their journey times.

Two weeks ago, campaigners attached purple ribbons to the trees on the approach road to Dover to highlight the situation.
