Poppy-wearing residents across the district have flocked to Remembrance Sunday services in Deal, Dover and Sandwich to remember those who have fought for our country.

At 11am, Mayors and dignitaries from the three towns removed their hats and bowed their heads to observe a minute’s silence, joined in sentiment by families, cadets and ex-servicemen.

In Dover the occasion began at 10.30am when town councillors and mayor Sue Jones met by Marks and Spencers to process to the war memorial outside the town council offices in Biggin Street.

Despite heavy rain, the strong turn out was testament to the thousands of British troops who have fought in combat to secure our country’s freedom.

The rain held off at Sandwich until the wreath laying, led by mayor Cllr Terry Clifford Amos, had finished and the Sir Roger Manwood’s CCF Band led the parade to St Clement’s Church for a service of Remembrance led by canon Mark Roberts.

The war memorial at Deal Hospital saw residents gather, pilgrimage like, to pay their respects and remember.

Deal mayor Cllr Ben Bano led the wreath laying, followed by many ex-servicemen and organisations.
