East Kent rock singer Rozzy Turner has said she won’t give up on her singing ambitions after being knocked out of The Voice UK on Saturday.
The former Warden House and St Edmund’s pupil has already been booked to perform at various magazine award ceremonies as well as a gig in Deal on Father’s Day (Sunday, June 21) in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
Talking about her time on the show, she said: “It’s been an amazing experience.
“It’s all been so surreal. I just want to be able to gig now and hopefully get out of the nine to five.”
The 33-year-old was pipped to the boxing ring post by Essex rapper Brooklyn Lammiman during her battle on the BBC show, which has since received more than 70,000 views on YouTube.
Despite not choosing to take Rozzy forward, coach will.i.am said she was amazing, powerful, flawless and awesome.
She said: “Will said such nice things about me. He came and met my family afterwards. He was really sincerely apologetic to my mum and dad. He meant it.”
Growing up, Rozzy was a member of the amateur dramatic group the Guild Players and also attended Deal Dance Centre at Linwood. She now lives is Guildford, Surrey. Her proud parent’s, Richard and Janet, still live in London Road, Deal.
The rock singer made it to the final 48 out of 47,000 who auditioned.
She said: “My singing came across and that’s what I wanted to be known for. Brooklyn and I worked really hard to make it a performance rather than a battle. It’s not nice when two singers are going at each other. It was how I wanted it to be portrayed.
“I’ve had a massive response on Facebook and Twitter, some people saying I was robbed.”
It wasn’t just the singing that viewers were talking about but also the Turner merchandise which Rozzy gave to Will, which had been custom made by her aunty Esther Thomson. The gifts including a hat printed with ‘I Turned 4 Turner’ and a pair of pants which he said that he wore.
She said: “He loved it. Apparently he loves getting gifts, especially things that have been made.
“I know he has a very close relationship with his aunty too. He said it’s lovely that my aunty does these things for me.”
Rozzy was scouted by a music producer in a bar in Soho last year. She was called a few days later and asked to audition for the show.
She said: “I wouldn’t change it. I just never expected them to call me, but it was so stressful behind the scenes. If I’m honest I didn’t like the seriousness of The Voice. I’m not competitive. Singing is for enjoyment.”
Rozzy said she has made some friends for life from the show, one in particular who she is rooting for.
“I would urge Deal town to get behind Sheena McHugh. She’s my voice-best friend, we chat every day.”
