Music, fashion and wine-tasting helped get this week’s Sandwich Festival off to a flying start, but they are only small samplers of what is still to come.
The starting horn was sounded on the festival on Sunday morning, when runners set off on Sandwich Leisure Centre’s 10km road race from The Quay Green at 10am.
The Becker Palm Court Trio was the first music event of many this week, and was held in the garden at Stuart House, Delf Street.
The Becker Symphony Orchestra tonight’s (Thursday) starts the festival music bill at St Mary’s Church from 7.30pm, followed tomorrow by the South German Cantabile and Quetsch Quartett from 8pm.
Jazz in the King’s Arms garden will take place at 2pm on Saturday featuring the Dr Jazz Combo.
And at 6pm, dancing in the street will see music performed by Smalltown Romance before the illuminated boat parade on the Stour from 9.30pm.
The music will continue in the King’s Arms garden from 2pm on Sunday with the Bay Jazz Band – a relaxed prelude to Bank Holiday Monday’s concert on Gazen Salts, formerly known as the Sandwich Jazz Festival.
Festival regulars Dr Jazz Combo will start off the line-up from 3pm, followed at 5pm by the Andy Maclean Band.
Paris group the Ben Toury Corporation will perform their first English concert at 7pm, and Hullabaloo will headline the concert from 9pm before a spectacular firework finale. Tickets to Jazz on Gazen Salts cost £5 on the gate from 2.30pm.
Other must-visit events for the family include a circus workshop on the Quay on Saturday at 11am and the Duck Race on the Quay on Monday from 3pm.
Sandwich White Mill Heritage Centre is also open between 10.30am and 5.30pm from Saturday and Monday.
