A fire that ripped through a boarding house at a school in Dover is not being treated as suspicious.

A large section of Marlborough House at the Duke of York's Royal Military School in Dover Road was destroyed in the blaze on Friday morning, April 16.

Around 50 firefighters, including crews from Ashford, Dover, Deal, Canterbury, Hythe and New Romney, were called to the scene.

The blaze is believed to have started in the roof space above the dormitory accommodation and administration offices. No one was injured.

The operation was scaled back overnight following an assessment by structural engineers. Crews left the scene at 9am on Saturday morning, April 17 - almost 24 hours after the fire broke out.

Investigators from Kent Fire and Rescue Service are now probing the cause of the fire.

Marlborough is a girls' boarding house at the school, and many of the students are believed to have lost much of their property in the fire.
