Schoolgirl airlifted to hospital after accident

A schoolgirl from Eythorne is in a stable condition in a London hospital after she was hit by a car in Canterbury on Monday.

Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School pupil Georgina Pitt, 11, was walking along Nackington Road at 4pm to meet her father who teaches at the nearby Langton Boys' School.

The accident happened at the junction of The Foreland and The Gap.

Georgina was airlifted by the Kent Air Ambulance to the intensive care unit at Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

The driver of the car - believed to be a people carrier - was not hurt.

Police closed Nackington Road until 7.45pm.

A police spokesman said Georgina was in a stable condition.
