Construction work on the Deal sea defence scheme starts early next month at an estimated cost of £7 million.
A new-look promenade is to be created and the project will change the face of the front, especially south of the pier with a wave wall nearly 3ft high (0.85m).
Deal MP Charlie Elphicke and district council representatives have met staff from the Environment Agency to discuss the proposals.
In the photocall on the beach he is holding a material to be used on the new wall and Cllr Sue Chandler is handling a blue Surestep circular sample that will be decorative on the structure. It will also be a warning to the partially sighted and blind, as well as deter skateboarders’ stunts.
Mr Elphicke said: “The flood defence works are going to make us safer. Yet they will also mean great change to the seafront."
Kathy Aucott, principal engagement officer at the EA, said: “We are planning to start construction work on the Deal Sea Defence Scheme in early September and will set up our site compound near to Sandown Castle in late August.
“We will start work on the rock revetment to the north of the town first, and expect to begin work on the new wave wall and the shingle recharge in mid-September.”
