An on-line petition has been launched to "make Dover great".
Local resident Bernie Mayall set it up with a target of 1,000 signatures. It has already attracted support, although mainly from people in other countries.
Mrs Mayall wrote: "Dover, at the farthest south eastern tip of the UK, is soaked in history and great buildings, a gateway to Europe - I can see France across the water on most days!
"It is also home to some great people and a terrific football team, the Whites.
"Sadly some of the buildings and spaces have been allowed to fall into neglect and filth. Dover needs some investment and some real work and commitment to show it at its fabulous best and make the best of itself.
"Those White Cliffs have seen some sights and defended us many times over the centuries - it is time to pay that back and make the environment as attractive as it can be and create the opportunity to attract investors and tourists as well as make it that much better for us Dovorians!"
Mrs Mayall is calling on the "busy and commited" local councils and representatives, with our support, to take "swift and visible action" to improve the outlook, aspect and environment thus attracting more tourists and better investment to the town.
People who have already added their names come from Canada, American, Slovakia, Germany, Poland, Bulgaria and the United Kingdom.
