Comedian Sue Perkins and restaurant critic Giles Coren have made a unexpected landing on Deal beach.

The two visitors, accompanied by a film crew, were in costume for a Roman episode of the BBC television programme Supersizers.

Tony Adams, from Deal, recognised the comedian and critic and watched them go through their scene depicting 55BC.

He said: “I saw them just 150 yards north of the original landing place by Deal Castle.

“The advanced force of Romans made an unopposed landing, largely ignored by promenaders enjoying the sunny weather.”

The Supersizers were on the television last year and go back in time in costume to different times in history to sample food from the era.

Last year the two featured the days of eating in six different times, including Elizabethan, Regency, the Second World War.

Mr Adams said he was told at the film shoot that the Deal programme will probably be screened on BBC2 in May or June.
