There was plenty of home cheer for Deal Tri at Sunday’s Deal five-mile race.

In all, 270 runners braved the torrential rain to finish the course with Deal Tri winning the men’s team prize, thanks to Theo Bately, pictured, Robert Thomas, Gordon Finlay and David Chapman-Jones.

Bately missed out on victory in the men’s race, finishing second to James Davis of Sale Harriers in 28min28sec.

Claire Elms of Dulwich won the women’s event with 29.42 while new Tri lady member Emma Dunn was first in for the club in 37.49.

Folkestone scooped the women’s team honours.
