Cash and a cannonball were stolen from a museum on the day of the King’s coronation.
Two teenage girls were seen “confidently walking” into Deal Museum before stealing a donation box and the real cannonball.
A spokesperson at the museum said the pair joked loudly about what they had done.
She said: “A donation box with about £10 in was taken from the museum and smashed open.
“It was discarded outside the museum on the street.”
The box has a sign on it that reads “help us keep a roof over our heads”.
The spokesperson told KentOnline the girls walked into the site and asked if there was an entrance fee and proceeded to walk round the museum.
“They then came downstairs and asked what time the museum closed, then left,” she said.
“They had bags with them so the donation box and the small cannonball must have been in there.
“After that they then went to the bar to try to get served, joking loudly about what they'd done,” she added.
It was confirmed the incident on Saturday, May 6 had been reported to the police.
A spokesman for the force said: “Two people, thought to be teenage girls entered the museum in St George’s Road, and took a collection box and cannon ball.
“The collection box was later found outside.”
