Dover go into their final home league game of the season against Maidenhead on Saturday knowing there will be no better time to end their Crabble hoodoo.
After five defeats in their last six home matches, Whites’ hopes of reaching the Blue Square Bet South play-offs would, in the normal run of events, be over by now.
But Nicky Forster’s side are still in with a chance because of their away form, which has seen them win their last four games – including a 1-0 victory at Havant & Waterlooville last Saturday thanks to striker Rob Edmans’ first goal for the club.
Fifth-placed Chelmsford, meanwhile, conceded three goals in the last seven minutes to lose 3-2 to Salisbury, leaving Whites two points behind the Essex club with both teams having two more games to play.
Admittedly, the two clubs are looking over their shoulders at seventh-placed Basingstoke, who have a match in hand, but Whites still have more of a chance than they might have expected following their 2-0 home defeat by Sutton on Easter Monday.
And striker Terry Dixon (pictured) insisted the mood in the squad is still very positive.
He said: "We all believe in ourselves and we are going to keep working hard for each other until it’s mathematically impossible for us to go up.
"We know we’ve messed up in the last four home games and I really can’t tell you why, but I don’t think the players are thinking about it too much.
"Everyone just wants to go out on Saturday and get the three points we obviously need."
