hiA woman taking the role of human swan touched down in east Kent as part of a flight of more than 4,000 miles.

Sacha Dench set the record as the first female paramotorist crossing the Channel.

She landed at the Channel Gliding Club grounds at Waldershare Park near Whitfield on Monday.

Ms Dench flew the 7,000km (4,349 miles) to follow the migration route of Bewick’s swans from the Russian tundra to Gloucestershire.

This was to see first hand the difficulties this declining species faces.

Ms Dench left Russia in September, flying over 11 countries including Germany and Poland. She expects to reach Gloucestershire next Monday Dec 12.

She was due to switch to a dragon boat to go through central London early this week.

This was deliver a petition to 10 Downing Street asking for government to create more wetland as a refuge for migratory birds including the swans.

So far the petition has around 14,000 signatures.

A total 50 paramotorists will give her a surprise escort on her last day across the Cotswolds.
