Heroin and cocaine said to be worth around £600,000 was seized from a Lithuanian man’s van at Dover’s Eastern Docks.
About seven kilos of heroin and six kilos of cocaine was found by Border Force officers last Thursday (13).
The drugs were discovered when the British registered vehicle was stopped and searched.
Arunas Kaulavicius, 49, appeared before Dover Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with importation.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in custody.
He will appear at Canterbury Crown Court on March 31.
The case is being investigated further by the National Crime Agency.
The director of Border Force in the south east and Europe, Paul Morgan, said: “This is an excellent seizure of extremely harmful drugs and I would like to pay tribute to the vigilance and hard work of the officers involved.
“We will continue to work hard to keep our borders safe and crack down on drug smuggling.”
