Three men from Deal and Dover have been issued fines after discarding their cigarettes in the street.
Dover District Council successfully prosecuted the three men at Canterbury Magistrates Court on Tuesday, January 20.
Keeran Drummond, 19, of Churchill Street, Dover, pleaded guilty by post to an offence of depositing litter.
On June 2, 2014, a DDC Environmental Enforcement Officer (EEO) saw Mr Drummond drop a cigarette in Biggin Street, Dover, and walk away.
He was fined £135, with a £20 victim surcharge, and ordered to pay costs of £50.
Nicholas Hazelwood, 33, of Freemans Way, Deal, was found guilty in his absence of an offence of depositing litter.
On June 26, 2014, a DDC EEO observed Mr Hazelwood drop a cigarette in Stanhope Road Car Park, Deal, and then get into a car.
He was fined £200, with a £20 victim surcharge, and ordered to pay costs of £150.
Robert Hall, 40, of Marlborough Road, Dover, pleaded guilty by post to an offence of depositing litter.
On June 12, 2014, Mr Hall was seen by an EEO to discard a cigarette on the floor in Melbourne Avenue, Dover, and walk away and leave it.
He was fined £135, with a £20 victim surcharge, and ordered to pay costs of £100.
Cllr Nicholas Kenton, DDC Cabinet Member for Environment and Waste, said: “Residents consistently tell us they want more rigorous enforcement, and we will not hesitate to take action when and where ever our officers witness offences.”
Dover District Council prosecutes for non-payment of fixed penalty notices, repeat offenders and those who refuse to provide their details to authorised officers.
