Police near the scene of the alleged assault in Dover

Four people arrested on suspicion of assault after an incident in Dover on Saturday morning have been released on bail.

A 44-year-old local man was allegedly attacked in or around Barwick Road at midnight.

He was taken to a London hospital, where his condition is described as "serious but stable".

Kent Police closed Barwick Road for much of the day on Saturday while forensic teams examined the scene.

Officers also conducted house to house enquiries.
