Video: fundraising
manager Deborah Kellond talks about the Moonlight Walk
by Beth Easton
It was bunny ears to the ready and a whole lot of laughs when
Pilgrims Hospices launched the third women-only Moonlight Walk
fundraising event at Tides.
Formerly known as the Midnight Walk because of the previous
starting time, the charity’s most popular fundraising event has
been renamed to reflect an earlier start of 10pm.
And it is hoped youngsters will sign up.
Deborah Kellond, Pilgrims Hospice fundraising manager said:
"This year we've lowered the age range to 12 plus so we can
hopefully get three generations of ladies together."
The Deal event consists of an 8km (five mile) walk, starting at
Tides Leisure Centre at 10.30pm on Saturday, June 5.
Other walks in Ashford on June 26 and a new walk between Herne
Bay and Whitstable on September 18 will also be held.
Pilgrims Hospices in Ashford, Canterbury and Margate need
£8million each year to continue offering free palliative care to
patients with incurable diseases.
Deborah added: "This year we need to raise £100,000 and we need
as many people to sign up as possible.
"The theme for 2010 is A Night To Remember. It's an opportunity
for people to remember someone they've lost or for friends to come
for a great night out that’s really memorable."
Over the past two years, just under £200,000 has been raised and
she is hoping to get 1,000 people to enter.
That amounts to £350,000 from all three events in Kent.
Merchandise like T shirts, flashing bunny ears and balloons will
be on sale on the night, with profits going to the charity.
