A bedroom blaze which broke out in a bungalow started accidentally, fire crews say.
Six fire engines and a height vehicle were sent to the scene in Hull Place, in Sholden, Deal at 5.20am.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using main jets and hose reel jets.
Two people were given precautionary checks after inhaling smoke, and were also offered support from KFRS’ Volunteer Response Team.
Firefighters believe the blaze started accidentally and have linked it to smoking materials.
Crews are now reminding people to always take care when smoking indoors by ensuring cigarettes, cigars or pipes are completely out before going out, or going to bed.
They are also urging smokers to use "proper" and "heavy" ashtrays which can't tip over easily and are made of a material that won't burn.
They also suggest putting ashtrays outdoors overnight.
