Police are yet to confirm why a police car crashed into a wall.

The crash happened at the junction of St Richards Road and Lydia Road in Deal on Sunday afternoon.

The vehicle mounted the pavement before striking the wall and was pictured by Mitchell Lawrence afterwards.

His image shows one of the wheels were buckled by the impact and bricks were scattered across the pavement and the metal railings were dislodged.

Mr Lawrence says he did not witness the crash - but in the aftermath he did see an officer knocking on the door of the house when he drove past.

Police have confirmed they have taken the details of the homeowner to arrange repairs of the wall and varified the car is not written off.

The residents of the house have been approached for more information.

A spokesman for Kent Police said the car was on patrol at the time and enquiries are being made to find out why it crashed. A local inspector will conduct the inquiries into what happened.

The spokesman said: “Shortly before 5.25pm on Sunday a Kent Police vehicle on patrol was involved in a collision with a wall at the junction of Lydia Road and St Richard’s Road, Deal.

“Nobody was injured in the incident and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.

"The police vehicle is not a write-off and will be repaired in due course.

"Kent Police has sufficient vehicles in its fleet to ensure policing commitments in Deal remain unaffected by the incident.
