A simulated First World War trench is among the exhibits worth a peek at Deal Maritime and Local History Museum this Bank Holiday.
The historical venue hidden in St George’s Road, just off the High Street, boasts wartime memorabilia as well as a rich seam of Deal-related artefacts encompassing life on the sea, the Royal Marines and our municipal past.
The trench, created in just a few days by carpenter Charlie Finn last summer, is in a shed in the courtyard and is made of distressed wood.
Sandbags, a flickering light effect demonstrating gunfire and touch-safe barbed wire add to the ambience.
Now the sun is appearing, the bistro tables and chairs on the terrace are a functional addition to the museum, making it a place to while away the hours with a cup of tea or coffee before moving from section to section.
It is open April to October: Tuesday to Friday 2pm to 4.30pm, Saturdays 11am to 4.30pm, Sundays Noon to 4pm. In June, July and August, it is open at 11am Tuesday to Friday.
Entry is £3 adults, concessions and children £2 and family ticket £9.
