Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault on a 15-year-old young man in Worthington Street, Dover at around 9.45pm on Saturday night.

The assault occurred when the victim had been visiting a newsagent on Worthington Street when a confrontation occurred with another young man in which the 15-year-old sustained very serious head injuries.

The young man was initially taken to William Harvey Hospital at Ashford, but has now been transferred to Kings College Hospital in London where his injuries were described as "life-threatening".

On Monday, he was continuing to receive treatment for a serious head injury which was said not to be life-threatening, but life-changing.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward and in particular would like to speak to the drivers of two small silver cars who are believed to have driven past at around the time of the assault. One was believed to be a Peugeot 206 and the other was a Volswagen Polo

Worthington Street is a one-way street, running from York Street into Dover town centre.The assault took place in an area adjacent to a bookmakers and a mini-mart.

Detective Inspector Jon Holl said: "It appears this young man had been briefly visiting the newsagent with his friends, when this assault occurred in the road outside.

"We are urging anyone with information to contact us, but we would particularly urge the drivers of two silver cars who are thought to have witnessed the incident to come forward."
