Elliott Charles’ second-half goal was enough to give Dover a 1-0 victory at Woking in Blue Square Bet South on Saturday.
Adam Birchall dispossessed Woking keeper Lenny Pidgeley, who was trying to see the ball out, and found Charles who scored from close range.
Dover had started well and Jon Wallis hit the bar before they were awarded a penalty.
Charles was tripped in the box but Wallis’ 20th minute spot-kick was saved and the danger cleared.
Three minutes before the break Dover hit the bar again, this time from an Olly Schulz header.
Charles then gave Whites a 56th minute lead but they had to withstand some late pressure as Woking searched for an equaliser.
But visiting keeper Scott Flitney was equal to the task with some good saves to ensure Martin Hayes’ (pictured) side made a winning start to the new campaign.
