Fire in Coldblow Woods in Walmer could have been started by dropped cigarette

Firefighters in Deal extinguished a small fire in Coldblow Woods yesterday.

One crew attended at about 1pm, putting it out using buckets of water and hose packs.

It is thought it could have been started by a dropped cigarette.

The crew was called out again at about 11pm to a garden shed alight in May Tree Cottages in Ripple.

An appliance from Dover also attended.

Watch manager Andy Batchelor said: “We used breathing apparatus and hose reels to extinguish it within 45 minutes. The cause is still under investigation.”
