Dover Athletic boss Chris Kinnear has played down the significance of his side’s two games in four days against Skrill South rivals.

Whites host Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday (3pm) and visit Eastbourne Borough on Tuesday (7.45pm), with just two points separating 11th-placed Havant from sixth-placed Borough, with Dover sandwiched in between.

However, despite the prospect of extending their two-match winning streak and making a welcome return to the play-off places this week, Kinnear refused to get carried away, saying: “It’s too early. There’s still such a long way to go, it’s only October.

“These are two big games but you can’t build them up too much at this stage of the season. We want to win every game as much as every other.

“I don’t think any team is running away with it and I don’t think it will be until after Christmas that things really start to take shape.” he said.

Kinnear’s side – 3-1 winners against AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the third qualifying round of the FA Cup on Saturday – have conceded just one goal in their last three league games but have scored only five in eight games at the other end.

He added: "The side are finally getting used to playing with each other and the attitude has been ok the last couple of cup games."
