A trio of class wins extended Toby Trice’s lead in the Ginetta GT Academy.

The Deal racer was competing at Snetterton and managed his opening win of the weekend despite just 10% visibility thanks to a muddied windscreen.

Trice’s car was left covered in mud after being hit by spray from a competitor running into the dirt and it led to a tricky opener.

“My windscreen was covered not once, but twice,” explained the racer. “By this point, I must have had just 10% visibility and couldn’t risk using the wipers.

“Mental resilience is something I’m no stranger to, though, and with some technical support and a good dose of luck, we got a result — first in class and second overall.”

Trice was racing at a track which wasn’t his favourite, preferring quick corners over the Norfolk circuit’s tight turns. Despite that and no practice ahead of the weekend, it was a case of getting his head down.

Trice said: “Practice and qualifying did not go to plan either, I quickly realised this was going to be one hell of a challenge. But with a great team by my side, I was ready.”

He had qualified third and despite a wet weekend all three of the races took place in the dry. Following the eventful first race, the next two were more straightforward, with class wins and third overall in both.

He has increased his Ginetta GT Academy championship lead to 107 points and is next out on track on September 25/26 at Silverstone.
