KENT tackle dealer Steve Allmark has won the National Federation of Sea Anglers' national shore championship for the second time. Competing against 10 regional winners in the final on the small island of Herm, in the Channel Islands, the 41-year-old England international won his section on both days of the event, scoring 555 points with wrasse and garfish.
On the first day, Steve, who lives in River, near Deal, struggled for the first hour and then found his form, catching 28 wrasse, two pollack and 12 garfish for the top score on the day. On the second day, his catch and release total was 20 wrasse and six garfish, giving him overall victory and the coveted Guernsey Sweater.
Second was Bob Gascoigne, from Cramlington, Northumberland, and third Andy Parkhill, from Hampshire.
Allmark, who recahed the national final by winning the South East Division qualifier, said: “We were fishing off rocks in deep water on Herm and there was a good variety of fish.”
Allmark will be representing England for the sixth time in next month’s world shore championships in Biarritz in France.
