Jill Cliff (W35, 32min25sec) of Deal Tri stormed to success in the women’s race at the Tim Sutton Fowlmead Five held at Deal Country Park on Sunday, despite having an 18-mile training run for the London Marathon in her legs.
Vicky Talbot-Rosner (W45, 33.32) of Invicta and Jo Malpass (W35, 34.49) of Deal Tri completed the podium.
Fifteen-year-old prospect Alex Newson, of Invicta East Kent, left it late but was a clear winner of the men’s race.
Newson (32.09) used his natural speed to pass four athletes on the final mile to build on his 2008 Kent County and Kent Schools 1,500m titles.
Andrew Lennard (32.23) of Preston Harriers, was second ahead of M55 master Alan Newman (32.31) of Paddock Wood AC.
The next four athletes were all over-40s as masters dominated the leading positions.
Phil Mallery (M45, 32.46) and David Weller (M40, 32.50) secured the team prize for Deal Triathletes and Julian Spencer-Wood (M55, 32.55) of Kent AC was also in excellent form.
Masters prizes were awarded to Sue Cooper (W45, 37.24) of the winning Invicta East Kent team and Sue James (W55, 38.09) of Paddock Wood.
Dover Road Runners had four members running at Fowlmead. Neil Coleman finished in 32.58, with Alan Ezen (34.20), Phil Coleman (42.41) and Caroline Gillings (55.50) supporting.
