Deal Town's FA Vase tie against Binfield postponed due to Covid concerns in opposition camp

Deal Town's FA Vase tie against Binfield this weekend has been postponed due to Covid concerns in their opponents' camp.

The sides were due to meet at the Charles Ground in round three this Saturday but the game was called off this morning.

Deal boss Derek Hares said: “It’s just so frustrating but what can you do?

"I'm not 100 per cent sure but I think their game was off on Saturday and then they’ve confirmed two have tested positive, so obviously our game can’t go ahead.

“We’re waiting to see what the FA ruling is. I should imagine we’ll learn more in the next few days about when it will be played.

“Obviously they have to self-isolate which takes us up to Christmas.

"I can’t see them wanting to come down on Boxing Day, so it may be December 28, which is when we’re due to play Canterbury in the league, but I’m guessing really - it’s all up in the air."

Deal were looking forward to welcoming 150 fans back to the Charles Ground, the figure permitted as a Tier 3 club under FA and government guidelines.

Hares understood the game was already a sell-out.

“Apparently the tickets had all gone,” he said. “That’s another headache for the club. I suppose they’ve either got to refund them or people can keep them for the rearranged date."
