Manager Chris Kinnear admits that the 1-0 scorelines in five of Dover Athletic’s six opening league games paint an accurate picture of their season so far.

The fact that three of the one-goal games have ended in the opposition’s favour, including last Saturday’s visit to Farnborough, has produced a stuttering start to Whites’ campaign.

Kinnear admitted: “Our finishing isn’t that great, which is disappointing but we are not conceding many goals either. And the fact we are creating plenty of chances means that things can easily turn around for us.

"If we start converting a few more chances, teams will have to come out more against us instead of sitting back and that will make it easier for the boys up front. ”

Saturday’s home game with Weston-super-Mare would be a good place to start.
The Somerset side have made a strong opening to their campaign and are lying in third in The Skrill South table after last Saturday’s 3-0 home win over Boreham Wood.

Whites won the corresponding fixture 3-1 last season in a game which saw Ben May score one of the 22 goals he netted for Dover before joining Ebbsfleet in the summer and at the moment Kinnear is struggling to find an obvious replacement for the big centre-forward.

Elliott Charles has yet to find the net on his return to Crabble and, although Michael Bakare scored a hat-trick in the 8-0 Kent Senior Cup win over Margate, he missed several chances at
Farnborough.
