Dover Athletic manager Chris Kinnear says Lee Sawyer needs to learn a disciplinary lesson after his red card at Chelmsford cost him the chance to play in Whites' FA Cup game at MK Dons.

The Woking midfielder – who began his career at Chelsea and who made 60 Football League appearances in loan spells at Southend, Coventry and Wycombe – is on loan at Crabble until the new year and played in Whites’ first round victory at Corby Town.

However, the former England under-19s midfielder was shown a straight red inside half-an-hour at the Melbourne Stadium and will miss the trip to Stadium MK.

Kinnear said: “He’s still a young lad but he’s got to learn from it. He can’t have any complaints. It was a sending-off and there was no need for it. He’s been sent off before. Maybe missing the game will help him learn. You have got to be disciplined.”

Barry Cogan returns from a three-game ban and Kinnear said: “You couldn’t ask for a better player to bring back in. He’s been outstanding for us this season.”

Chris Kinnear Jun has a groin problem which is being monitored, while Ricky Modeste remains sidelined.
