Injured Dover Athletic midfielder Ricky Modeste misses out on facing old club Chelmsford City

It’s vital Dover take advantage of a rare league outing when they visit struggling Chelmsford City on Saturday, says boss Chris Kinnear.

Dover have played seven cup ties but only eight Skrill South games since the end of August and just one since October 22 – a 2-0 defeat at Basingstoke on November 2, their only loss in an 11-game run.

However, despite sitting 13th, Whites could return to the top-eight with a win and within touching distance of the play-off places should they win their game in hand.

Kinnear said: “We want to put that defeat last time behind us and get a win. We have got to be looking to win at Chelmsford. We need a result to get us right back up there.”

With the next league fixture not until December 10, Kinnear added: “We are in the middle of a run of a lot of cup games.

“But I wouldn’t say they were a distraction. It’s important we try and pick up league points.”

Barry Cogan has two more games of his ban remaining while Ricky Modeste (hamstring) remains out.

Kinnear said: “We’d love to have had him (Modeste) this week to play against his old club and he would have wanted to play but he’s nowhere near ready."
