Sandwich Town cricketer Ryan Davies is targeting an England career after smashing his club’s batting record on Sunday afternoon.
The 16-year-old cracked an astonishing 251 for Sandwich in their total of 492-3 – another record – against Hythe in the Lords East Kent League.
Davies hit 29 fours and 15 sixes before retiring not out in the 23rd over and Town went on to win by 271 runs at The Butts.
He said: “It was pretty special. I don’t think I’ll have many days like that. I’ve got hundreds before but I don’t think I’ve played as well as that.
“It’s good to have my name against the record. I don’t think it’ll be broken for a while."
The huge innings took Davies through 1,500 runs for Sandwich this summer and beyond 2,000 runs in all cricket. The wicketkeeper-batsman is part of Kent’s academy set-up.
He played for the county’s 2nd XI against Essex this week and he has been called into the England under-17 squad on the back of his batting displays for the London & East side at the inter-regional Super 4 competition.
He said: “It’s been a pretty special year already. Getting the England call-up, that’s probably been the highlight. The aim now is to get a pro contract with Kent. I’d like to get into the England under-19s as well."
