Dover Athletic need one more point to secure a place in the Blue Square Bet South play-offs following their goalless home draw with Dorchester on Saturday.
But Whites will need to produce better performances in their remaining games, starting at Staines on Tuesday night, if they are to ultimately earn the second promotion spot behind Welling.
Chris Kinnear's side started well enough against Dorchester with Ricky Modeste and Lloyd Harrington both forcing good saves from visiting keeper Jason Matthews while Daryl McMahon saw his curling effort strike the woodwork.
Dorchester, however, gradually took control of the midfield area and they almost snatched the lead on the stroke of half-time when Ian Simpemba cleared off the line after Whites keeper Mitch Walker had spilt Sam Malsom's fierce effort.
And in the second half a sluggish looking Dover created few real chances before Dorchester went close to grabbing all three points in the dying seconds when their captain, Mark Jermyn, fired straight at Walker when well placed.
