TWO boys have been arrested in connection with an alleged "happy slapping" attack on a terminally ill woman in Dover.

Wheelchair-bound Beverley McFarlane, 41, who suffers from lymphoma, was in Woolworths store in Biggin Street, Dover, at 12.45pm on Saturday December 15 when the incident occurred.

It is alleged a tin of chocolates Mrs McFarlane had resting on her knees was struck, causing her alarm, and she was then hit on the back of the head.

There were about four boys and two girls in a group.

Police appealed for witnesses and described the main offender as white, of slim build, with light mousey coloured hair. He was wearing a grey hooded top with a white T-shirt underneath.

A group of youngsters were seen looking at a mobile phone and laughing. Police believe the incident might have been filmed as a so-called 'happy-slapping’ attack.

Det Con Becky Lown, who is investigating the assault, urged young people who were in the group “to do the right thing” and come forward.

On Friday, police revealed that a group had been located by the town’s CCTV operators a short distance away from the scene. They were stopped and checked by a police community support officer who was patrolling in the area.

Two boys aged 11 and 12, both from Dover, have been arrested and released on bail pending further inquiries.
