A father-to-be from Whitfield is running 30 half marathons in 30 days to raise money for the Stroke Association.
Daniel Price, 28, of Cranleigh Drive, has already completed 13 and a half half marathons with 15 and a half to go around Dover and Deal, before he takes on the Great North Run in Newcastle on Sunday, September 13 to complete his challenge.
Mr Price, who works as an Immigration Officer for Border Force at the Port of Dover, has undertaken this challenge in memory of his two grandfather’s who both passed away after a stroke.
Mr Price said: “I didn’t want to do this in a soppy way but it’s my way of doing something for charity and doing something crazy while I’m still youngish.”
His grandad Gethin Price died two years ago after suffering a series of strokes over 14 years. His other grandad John Dowle, who died six months earlier, suffered from cancer but also had a stroke before he died.
He said: “They are the driving force behind this.”
Mr Price trained for 16 weeks but said he has always been an active person and has played football since he was a child so it hasn’t been as difficult as he thought it would be.
He has also become an ambassador for the Stroke Association which means giving talks and helping other volunteers.
He said: “I didn’t want it to be a one off thing.
“I want to be respectful to the Stroke Association and any charity which do this day in and day out. I can’t just do this and walk away from it.”
He plans to take part in the London Marathon next year but as his wife Hannah, 29, is expecting their first child in November, he will focus on being an ambassador for a while and take up running challenges again when the baby is older.
So far he has raised nearly £1,000 and rising.
