His VW Bora saloon was in collision with two lorries. He died at the scene.

"Del worked as a hod carrier, which is also a physically demanding job, and at 53 years of age he amazed his work friends with his endless amounts of energy.
"Del was known for being a character who was always winding people up. He loved to play tricks, but he had a heart of gold and was a very special son, partner stepfather and granddad."
The statement added that on the day of the crash he had made a chilli for his partner Maria and his family, had taken Maria to work and been to Gatwick airport to collect his stepson, his partner and grandchilden.
"He was on his way to see his mother, Ethel, and to take her some dinner when the accident happened.
"Words cannot describe our loss. He will be greatly missed by a lot of people."
