TWO motorists spotted driving in an anti-social manner and causing a nuisance in car parks in Sandwich and Deal have been warned they will have their cars taken away if caught doing it again.

The men, aged 18 and 30 from Deal, were seen by Dover District Council CCTV operators in the Guildhall car park in Sandwich and then in the Union Road car park in Deal where they were doing "wheelies" and "doughnut" manoeuvres.

Police officers stopped the drivers of the cars and took their details and issued them with a Section 59 Warning (under the Police Reform Act).

Sgt Guy Thompson, of the Dover District Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: “This is fairly new legislation and allows us to confiscate vehicles if the driver has been warned on a previous occasion about their driving.

“Boy racers are a nuisance to residents who live near these car parks and we will take whatever action we can to deal with such problems in response to concerns from the community.”

Cllr Mrs Julie Rook, Dover District Council Cabinet Member for Citizenship, said: "We are working hard with Kent Police and the local community to continue to tackle issues of crime and anti-social behaviour.

"Car drivers need to remember that reckless driving can kill. Council CCTV operators are alert to this type of anti-social behaviour and this instance is a clear example of how we all work in partnership to tackle such anti-social behaviour."

Police say the incidents occurred on Saturday, November 18.
