A20 air pollution action call

An action group is calling for something to be done about air pollution along the A20 through Dover.
They say they are concerned about the air quality up to a quarter of a mile either side of the main road where residents are being plagued by dust and black particles.
"It is found in their homes and on furniture and fittings," said A20 Action Group chairman Les Richmond.
"It is ever constant outside and in the local marina boat owners are constantly washing down their boats.
"The black dust and particles are larger than 10 micron - the size of particles measured by the air quality sampling machines - and residents are concerned about their health and the effect these particles may have on respiration.
"We feel that residents in the vicinity of the port are being bombarded with ‘black dust’ from both the marine and land-based diesels.
"The recent road works have now included new markings at the Eastern Docks and York Street roundabouts to keep entrances clear. This is having no effect."
