Two brothers have pleaded guilty to conspiring to attend a place used for the training of terrorists in Syria after being stopped by police in Dover.

Hamza Nawaz, 23, and Mohommod Nawaz, 30, were searched at the port in September last year.

Officers allegedly found a balaclava, some "heavy-duty clothing", six mobile phones, a sim card inside a Koran and five rounds of ammunition for an AK-type gun in their car.

The pair, from Stratford, east London, had arrived in Dover from Calais.

At a hearing at the Old Bailey both men admitted conspiring to attend a terror training camp between January 1, 2012, and September 16 last year.

Mohommod Nawaz also pleaded guilty to having ammunition without a firearms certificate.

The same charge against his brother was ordered to remain on file.

An additional charge of possessing a laptop computer containing "information of a kind likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism" was dropped.

The brothers were remanded in custody for sentencing at the Old Bailey on June 9.
