A staggering £2,250 has now been raised to support brave Bryoni Millar who is undergoing treatment in the USA to remove part of a tumour.

The 18-year-old has had a rocky ride over the past year after discovering a tumour that had been growing undetected for six years.

The Buckland Avenue resident has had bone cancer removed from the back of her skull along with most of the tumour.

However, the teenager needed to have the last of it dispersed without the dangers of an operation.

The NHS has funded her treatment, which is going ahead in Jacksonville, and she is not set to be back in Dover until October.

But Bryoni needed the extra funding for her grandmother to accompany her, and anything over £2,000 raised would go to King’s College Hospital in London which has aided her back to better health.

Bryoni has lost hearing in her left ear and has suffered from partial facial paralysis.
A Benefit Music Afternoon helped raise £1,000 at The Cricketers in Crabble Avenue at the start of the month, and the charity R V Coleman Trust has given another £1,000.

The trust helps people who live in Dover and the immediate neighbourhood and are sick, convalescing, or living with a mental or physical disability.

Mother Tara Bingham said: “They will be writing us a cheque for £1,000, so we’ve done it!”

The Rotary Club of Dover gave an extra £250 to the cause that has honoured a brave teenager and brought community spirit back into the heart of Dover.
