A busy stretch of the A2 is set to be hit by almost a month of overnight and weekend closures.

The almost four-mile route between Whitfield and Dover Eastern Docks roundabouts - which includes Jubilee Way - will be shut off for barrier repairs and resurfacing works.

Traffic queues are expected as motorists are forced onto a diversion route along the A256 Maison Dieu Road through Dover town centre

Queues are expected as motorists heading along the A2 towards the ferry terminal will be forced onto the A256 Maison Dieu Road through the town centre.

The work begins on Monday, with the route completely shut off between 8pm and 6am every night up to and including Friday, November 10.

While the stretch between the Whitfield and Duke of York’s roundabouts will reopen at 6am on the Saturday, the road down to the Dover Eastern Docks roundabout - Jubilee Way - will remain closed right through to 6am on Monday, November 13.

From that day until Friday, December 8, the entire route will shut on weeknights between 8pm and 6am.

The work is being carried out by National Highways, which says: “For the safety of roadworks and motorways, overnight and full weekend closures are needed to complete the work.”

When the A2 at Dover is closed a signed diversion will be in place in both directions via the A256 and A2.

Vehicles will be able to access and leave the Port at all times during the closures, following signed diversions.

The alternative direct route to the ferry terminal is the A20 Townwall Street, which will be used by many freight lorries coming off the M20.
