Two candidates are competing to take over the seat of former council leader Paul Watkins.

Fellow Conservative Peter Jull and Labour’s Charles Woodgate are standing for election to replace Mr Watkins in the St Margaret’s-at-Cliff ward.

The by-election takes place on Thursday, November 23.

The by-election is in late November

Mr Watkins, who had started his local government career in 1983, retired as Dover district councillor and overall leader on September 30.

He was replaced as leader by Keith Morris, fellow Conservative and St Margaret’s ward member, on October 18.

Polling stations in the ward are open from 7am to 10pm.
