A large chalky patch of land in a valley is the base of a new housing development in Dover.

Work has started at the site, off Folkestone Road, in Maxton, to create a mix of 29 flats and houses.

The new scheme looks like a chalk scar in the valley

Pictures, taken high up from the Western Heights, shows the development on the northern part of the main road, with existing homes on other side.

Another image, taken directly from Folkestone Road, reveals some of the houses already being built.

The new development of two, three and found bedroom homes is to be called White Cliffs Court and is by Enzo’s Homes.

The project is due to be completed by early next year.

A spokesman for Enzo’s said: “The development boasts a collection of 29 beautifully crafted homes.

“In accordance with Enzo's Homes' passion for eco-friendly technology each features a range of smart technology and construction techniques.

“These homes will be eco-friendly.

“There will be four flats and 25 houses and we expect them to all be built by January or February.”

It comes as work is also progressing to develop land formerly occupied by Dover’soriginal Buckland Hospital.

The first of the homes in Coombe Valley Road are now built.

Several more, including behind the car park of the replacement hospital, are still under construction.

Dover District Council granted detailed planning permission for 81 two- to three-bed homes in June 2021 and construction has progressed steadily since.

The hospital was replaced by a new facility with the same name in 2015, located 60 to 70 metres down the road.

The original was knocked down during 2017.
